Ruby Jam: A Monthly Meetup for the Ruby Programming Language in Taiwan 💎

AI & techProductCareers

Ruby Jam is a monthly technical meetup that provides a platform for the Ruby community to connect, learn, and grow. Featured Theme 🚂 Hotwire Native Field Notes: The Real Challenge Starts After Hello World 🚂 Hotwire Native lets Rails developers ship iOS and Android apps from an existing website without learning React Native or Flutter. But most tutorials stop at "load a webpage in a WebView" — actually building an app that feels usable surfaces a whole set of problems the tutorials never cover: how Bridge Components turn a webview's hamburger menu into a native menu, what else you can do with the native header, and how each tab under a Tab Bar manages its own navigation stack, among other things. This talk walks through my real experience implementing Hotwire Native in a Rails project — the gap between "following a tutorial to get a working shell" and "building an app with a complete, navigable experience," and the details and pitfalls I had to fill in along the way. I'll also share the real technical conflicts I ran into — and how I resolved them — as a Rails developer crossing into the native iOS world (Swift / SwiftUI). This talk is for Rails developers curious about Hotwire Native who want to go deeper into the implementation details.

Founders & fundraisingMarketing & growthProduct

Bringing together 10+ communities from across Taiwan's startup ecosystem with two bestselling authors. On November 5, Nir Eyal (Hooked, Indistractable, Beyond Belief) and Colin Hodge (Outrageous Startup Growth) are coming together in Taipei for an evening exploring growth, habits and the psychology behind building products, companies and careers. Founders, operators, investors, business leaders, creatives, and ecosystem builders from communities across Taiwan will share the same room. People who may come from different countries, industries, and professional circles, but wrestle with many of the same fundamental questions about building companies, changing behavior, and creating meaningful growth. Rather than another standalone talk, the evening is designed to turn those ideas into connection and conversation. The authors start the conversation. The diversity of the room is what makes it interesting.
